What is INCONEL 602CA?

INCONEL 602CA is a high-carbon nickel-chromium-iron superalloy containing 24–26 % chromium and 1.8–2.4 % aluminium, micro-alloyed with yttrium, titanium and zirconium, designated UNS N06025 and W.Nr. 2.4633 (NiCr25FeAlY). It is one of the most oxidation-resistant wrought nickel alloys in commercial use. Published test data covers service up to about 1200 °C (2192 °F), and its creep-rupture strength above 1000 °C is higher than that of Inconel 601 or Incoloy 800H.

Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. produces INCONEL 602CA as custom open-die forgings: seamless rolled rings, flanges, round bars, discs, sleeves, bushings, shafts, tube sheets, nozzles and blocks. Material is melted by EAF + VOD + ESR, forged and solution annealed in our own shop, and released with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certification.

Chemical composition of INCONEL 602CA (UNS N06025)

Every INCONEL 602CA heat we forge is certified against the limits below. Values are mass percentages and nickel is the balance, typically around 61 %.

Table 1. Chemical composition limits, INCONEL 602CA / UNS N06025 / W.Nr. 2.4633 (mass %)

Max 26.00Balance11.000.25 2.400.200.120.10 0.150.500.100.020.01

The high carbon content of 0.15 to 0.25 % is intentional. It forms stable primary chromium and titanium carbides that pin the grain boundaries and give the alloy its creep strength above 1000 °C. Aluminium and yttrium build the adherent alumina sub-layer that provides oxidation resistance under thermal cycling. Some national specifications list slightly different Mn or Si limits, so state your governing specification on the order and we will certify to it.

How we forge and heat treat INCONEL 602CA

The hot-working window for INCONEL 602CA is narrow and grain size has a direct effect on creep life, so the production route is fixed and recorded on every order.

1. Melting, EAF + VOD + ESR

The heat is melted in an electric arc furnace, refined by vacuum oxygen decarburisation to control carbon and gas content, then electroslag remelted. ESR gives the low sulphur content, tight segregation and clean inclusion rating that INCONEL 602CA needs for repeated thermal cycling.

2. Open-die forging, 1200 °C down to 900 °C

Hot working runs from about 1200 °C down to a finishing temperature near 900 °C, with reheats as required so that deformation takes place inside the window rather than below it. Forging reduction is planned to break down the as-cast structure through the full section and to give the grain flow the part needs, circumferential in a rolled ring and axial in a shaft.

3. Solution annealing at approx. 1220 °C

Parts are solution annealed at approximately 1220 °C and then air cooled or water quenched. Where the component will operate continuously in the 600 to 750 °C band, a stabilizing anneal at about 950 °C for 3 hours is added. Solution annealing is repeated after any hot working and after cold forming above about 7 %.

4. Machining, testing and release

Forgings are rough or finish machined to your drawing, then ultrasonically tested to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 or ASTM A388 at the acceptance class you specify. Release documentation is EN 10204 3.1 as standard, or EN 10204 3.2 witnessed by TÜV, BV, SGS, DNV or Lloyd's Register. Positive material identification, hardness survey, grain size report and elevated-temperature mechanical testing can be added to the order.

Where is INCONEL 602CA used?

INCONEL 602CA is specified where a component has to survive high temperature and an aggressive atmosphere at the same time, conditions that shorten the life of stainless steels and of lower-alloy nickel grades.

Heat treatment and industrial furnaces

Radiant tubes, muffles, retorts, roller hearth and pusher furnace rollers, charge carriers, baskets, grids, fans and furnace fixtures. This is the largest single application for the alloy. Because it resists internal oxidation, a thin section keeps sound metal through the full wall thickness and holds its properties after several hundred cycles.

Petrochemical, hydrogen and syngas

Catalyst grid supports, reformer internals, hydrogen production equipment, cracking furnace components, calciner parts and process modules working in carburising or metal-dusting conditions. Forged rings, tube sheets, flanges and nozzles in 602CA are common in this service.

Waste to energy, incineration and cement

Incinerator grate bars and internals, gasifier components, calciner rings, kiln and cooler fixtures, and thermal processing equipment exposed to alkali, chloride and sulphur-bearing flue gas.

Power generation and heavy equipment

High-temperature ducting, hot-gas expander and turbine ancillaries, burner components, and forged shafts, sleeves and bushings for equipment running above the reach of stainless steel. Diesel glow plugs and high-temperature exhaust components use the same alloy in wrought form.

Silicon, ceramics and thermal processing

Fixtures and support structures in silicon and silicon carbide production, ceramic sintering, and other processes that combine long dwell times above 1100 °C with oxidising atmospheres.

INCONEL 602CA compared with other heat-resistant nickel alloys

Buyers most often ask whether 602CA justifies its cost against Inconel 601 or Incoloy 800H. Metal temperature and atmosphere decide it.

Table 6. Indicative comparison of heat-resistant nickel alloys, nominal composition in mass %
AlloyUNSCrNi AlCDistinguishing feature
INCONEL 602CAN0602524–26Bal. 1.8–2.40.15–0.25 Highest oxidation resistance of the group. Alumina sub-layer resists internal oxidation, best creep strength above 1000 °C
Inconel 601N0660121–2558–63 1.0–1.7≤ 0.10 Lower cost workhorse, shows internal oxidation and much lower creep strength above 1000 °C
Inconel 600N0660014–17≥ 72 -≤ 0.15 General corrosion and chloride SCC resistance, limited above about 1095 °C
Inconel 617N0661720–24Bal. 0.8–1.50.05–0.15 Co and Mo solid-solution strengthening, very high creep strength, molybdenum limits oxidation life at the top end
Inconel 693N0669327–31Bal. 2.5–4.0≤ 0.15 Highest aluminium, aimed at metal dusting resistance
Incoloy 800HN0881019–2330–35 0.15–0.600.05–0.10 Iron based and far lower cost, the usual choice below about 900 °C

The comparison is indicative and based on nominal published chemistries. It does not replace a design calculation. Send us the metal temperature, atmosphere and required life and we will say whether a lower-cost grade will do the job.

INCONEL 602CA, frequently asked questions

What is the UNS number for INCONEL 602CA?

The UNS number for INCONEL 602CA is N06025. Its European material number is W.Nr. 2.4633 and its EN chemical designation is NiCr25FeAlY. Nicrofer 6025 HT, Alloy 603 GT and RA 602 CA all refer to the same UNS N06025 chemistry.

What is the maximum service temperature of INCONEL 602CA?

The alloy was developed for service up to about 1200 °C (2192 °F) in oxidising atmospheres, a figure that comes from published long-term oxidation testing. For pressure-retaining components the code limits are lower: about 899 °C under ASME BPVC Section I for steam service, about 980 °C under Section VIII Division 1, and up to about 1150 °C under VdTÜV data sheet 540. The number you design to is set by the governing design code rather than by the alloy.

Which standard covers INCONEL 602CA forgings?

ASTM B564 / ASME SB-564 covers nickel alloy forgings in UNS N06025. Bar and rod fall under ASTM B166 / SB-166, plate and sheet under B168 / SB-168, and seamless pipe and tube under B167 / SB-167. European coverage is DIN 17742 and 17752, DIN EN 10302 and VdTÜV data sheet 540.

Is INCONEL 602CA the same as Nicrofer 6025 HT and Alloy 603 GT?

Yes. INCONEL 602CA, Alloy 602 CA, Nicrofer 6025 HT, Alloy 603 GT and RA 602 CA are trade names for the same alloy, UNS N06025 / W.Nr. 2.4633. We supply forgings under whichever designation your drawing calls out, certified to the UNS N06025 chemistry.

How is INCONEL 602CA heat treated after forging?

Hot working runs from about 1200 °C down to roughly 900 °C. The part is then solution annealed at approximately 1220 °C and air cooled or water quenched. For continuous service in the 600 to 750 °C range a stabilizing anneal at about 950 °C for 3 hours is recommended. Solution annealing is repeated after hot working and after cold forming above about 7 %.

What is the difference between INCONEL 602CA and Inconel 601?

INCONEL 602CA carries higher carbon, 0.15 to 0.25 % against 0.10 % maximum, and higher aluminium, 1.8 to 2.4 % against 1.0 to 1.7 %, together with yttrium and zirconium micro-additions. In service, 602CA forms a continuous alumina sub-layer and resists internal oxidation, while Inconel 601 oxidises internally at comparable temperatures. In thin sections such as radiant tubes this has a large effect on life. INCONEL 602CA also has higher creep-rupture strength above 1000 °C.

Is INCONEL 602CA weldable?

Yes, by GTAW, GMAW and SMAW using matching filler metal, SNi6025, ENi6025 or BNi6025. Because the alloy is high in carbon and aluminium, joint preparation must be clean and heat input controlled. A post-weld solution anneal is usually specified for pressure-retaining welds. Tell us if your forging will be welded into an assembly and we will set the delivery condition to suit.

Can you supply INCONEL 602CA forgings with EN 10204 3.2 certification?

Yes. EN 10204 3.1 mill certificates are standard on every order. EN 10204 3.2 certificates witnessed by TÜV, BV, SGS, DNV or Lloyd's Register are available on request, together with ultrasonic testing to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 or ASTM A388 at your specified acceptance class.

Do you supply INCONEL 602CA seamless rolled rings?

Yes. Seamless rolled rings are a core product of our open-die forging shop, rolled on 3 metre and 6 metre ring rolling mills, alongside forged flanges, round bars, discs, sleeves, bushings, shafts, tube sheets and nozzles in INCONEL 602CA. Send the ring outside diameter, inside diameter, height and quantity to sales@steelforgepieces.com for a quotation.

What is the minimum order quantity for INCONEL 602CA forgings?

There is no fixed minimum piece count. INCONEL 602CA forgings are made to drawing, and we produce single prototype parts as well as production batches. Feasibility is governed by the minimum practical heat size for the melt route and by the certification you need. Send the drawing and we will tell you the most economical way to make it.

How long does delivery take?
