01 What is 2.4969?

2.4969 is a wrought, precipitation-hardening nickel–chromium–cobalt superalloy designated NiCr20Co18Ti and known commercially as Nimonic 90 or Alloy 90. In German material tables 2.4969 appears as the Werkstoff Br. (short material number) while 2.4632 is the current Werkstoff Nr.; both refer to the same alloy, UNS N07090. Strengthening comes from γ′ precipitation of titanium and aluminium, which gives the alloy high creep and stress-rupture strength up to about 920 °C (1,688 °F) together with good resistance to high-temperature oxidation and scaling.

2.4969 work-hardens quickly and has a narrow hot-working window, so parts are normally produced as open-die forgings or seamless rolled rings rather than machined from plate. Forging breaks down the as-cast structure, closes porosity and puts the grain flow along the load path, which is where turbine discs, ring sections and hot-working tooling get their fatigue and rupture life.

Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. supplies 2.4969 in the solution-treated and aged condition to DIN 17744, and can work to AMS 5829, BS HR2 or a customer specification. Melting is by EAF + VOD + ESR as standard, with VIM + VAR or VIM + ESR available where aerospace-grade cleanliness is required.

08 Frequently asked questions about 2.4969

What is 2.4969 material?

2.4969 is a German material number (Werkstoff Br.) for the precipitation-hardening nickel–chromium–cobalt superalloy NiCr20Co18Ti, better known as Nimonic 90 and by the UNS number N07090. It contains 18–21 % chromium and 15–21 % cobalt with titanium and aluminium additions, and keeps high stress-rupture and creep strength up to about 920 °C (1,688 °F).

Is 2.4969 the same as Nimonic 90?

Yes. 2.4969 and Nimonic 90 describe the same alloy. In German material tables 2.4969 is listed as the Werkstoff Br. (short material number) while 2.4632 is the current Werkstoff Nr.; both correspond to NiCr20Co18Ti, UNS N07090, BS HR2 and AMS 5829.

What is the maximum service temperature of 2.4969?

About 920 °C (1,688 °F) for creep and stress-rupture loaded parts. For components that must resist stress relaxation, such as high-temperature springs and fasteners, the practical limit is around 600 °C (1,112 °F).

What heat treatment is applied to 2.4969 forgings?

The standard cycle for bar and forgings is solution treatment for 8 hours at 1,080 °C followed by air cooling, then precipitation hardening for 16 hours at 700 °C followed by air cooling. Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. can also apply the sheet route (1,150 °C, then 1,040 °C, plus 4 hours at 750 °C) or a customer-specified cycle.

Which forged shapes can be produced in 2.4969?

Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. produces 2.4969 forged rings and seamless rolled rings, discs, flanges, round bars, shafts and spindles, sleeves and bushings, tube sheets, hollow bars and forged pipes, blocks, and valve bodies, stems and seat rings, in single-piece weights from about 10 kg to 2,500 kg.

What testing and certification are supplied with 2.4969 forgings?

Forgings are ultrasonically tested to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 or ASTM A388, with magnetic particle or dye penetrant inspection, chemical analysis, tensile, hardness and impact testing, positive material identification and grain size checks as required. Certificates are issued to EN 10204 3.1, or 3.2 witnessed by a third party such as TÜV, SGS, BV or Lloyd's Register.

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time for 2.4969 forgings?

One piece is accepted for trial and prototype orders. Typical lead time is 25 to 45 days after drawing approval, depending on melting route, size and heat treatment. A quotation is issued within 12 working hours of receiving the drawing or dimensions.
