What is 2.4642?
2.4642 is the European material number (Werkstoff-Nr.) for Alloy 690 — a high-chromium nickel-chromium-iron alloy also known as Inconel 690, UNS N06690 and NiCr29Fe. Its high chromium content (27–31%) gives high resistance to oxidizing acids, high-temperature oxidation, sulfidation and stress-corrosion cracking, which is why it is specified for nitric-acid plant equipment, nuclear steam-generator components and other severe corrosive and high-temperature service.

Manufacturing
How we make 2.4642 forgings
- Melting: EAF + VOD refining with ESR (electro-slag remelting) for clean, homogeneous 2.4642 ingot.
- Open-die forging: rings, shafts, disks, blocks and bars forged from the ingot; seamless rings rolled to size.
- Heat treatment: solution annealing to the applicable specification, with additional thermal treatment on request.
- NDT: ultrasonic testing to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 or ASTM A388.
- Testing: chemical analysis, mechanical testing and PMI as required.
- Certification: EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 (third-party) material certificate with every order.
