NCK19DTA is the AFNOR designation for René 41, a nickel-base precipitation-hardening superalloy also listed as UNS N07041 and Werkstoff No. 2.4973. Nickel, chromium, cobalt and molybdenum make up the base, with aluminium and titanium added to form a gamma-prime Ni3(Al,Ti) precipitate. That precipitate is what carries the strength, from room temperature up to roughly 980 °C (1,800 °F).

Heat treatment and hot working of NCK19DTA
Strength comes from two stages. Solution treatment dissolves the gamma-prime precipitate. Ageing puts it back as a fine, even distribution. Both stages run in-house at Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. on furnaces with calibrated, chart-recorded temperature control.

Cycles are indicative. The cycle actually used is set by the specification and the section thickness, and the chart record goes out with the forging.
Forging practice
- Hot working runs from about 1,120 °C down to about 1,000 °C (2,050 to 1,830 °F), with reheats to suit the section.
- The forging window is narrow. Press capacity, die temperature and the reduction schedule are planned per part before the first billet goes into the furnace.
- Finish forging is followed by full solution treatment, then ageing, so the grain structure is right through the section and not just at the surface.
Welding
NCK19DTA is sensitive to strain-age cracking because of the aluminium and titanium content. Weld in the solution treated condition, then solution treat again before ageing. AMS 5800 is the usual filler wire. Tell us at enquiry stage if the part is welded or may need weld repair, so the sequence can be agreed before production starts.
