Carbon is the primary strengthening element here, forming pearlite during cooling. Manganese at 0.90–1.50% adds solid-solution strength and helps with hot working. Silicon works as a deoxidizer. Phosphorus and sulfur are held to low levels to keep ductility and impact resistance where they need to be.

Heat Treatment and Delivery Condition

EN 10222-2 calls for P280GH forgings to be delivered in the normalized (+N) or normalized-and-tempered (+NT) condition. During normalizing, we heat the forgings to around 900–940 °C, hold until the piece is uniformly through-heated, then air-cool. This refines the grain and gives the right balance of strength and toughness.

For heavier sections, we add a tempering step at roughly 580–660 °C. Tempering takes out residual stress and bumps up ductility a bit without dropping the strength too much.

All heat treatment happens in-house at our Jiangyin factory, and the full thermal cycle is recorded on every MTC.
