What UNS N06200 is
UNS N06200 is a wrought, solid-solution nickel alloy introduced in 1995 as Hastelloy C-2000. It belongs to the Ni-Cr-Mo group that also contains C-276 and C-22, and it is the only member of that group with an intentional copper addition.
Each of the three main alloying elements answers a different corrosion problem. Chromium at 23 % covers oxidizing media: nitric acid, ferric and cupric ion contamination, dissolved oxygen. Molybdenum at 16 % covers reducing media, mainly hydrochloric acid, and carries the pitting and crevice resistance in chlorides. Copper at 1.6 % is what the other C-family grades do not have. It raises resistance to sulfuric acid, the one service where C-276 and C-22 fall short.
The alloy gains its strength from solid solution, not from precipitation, so it is never age hardened. Forgings leave the shop solution annealed. Carbon is capped at 0.010 % and silicon at 0.08 % so that carbides do not precipitate at grain boundaries and weaken corrosion resistance in the heat affected zone after welding.
In purchasing terms the grade is specified for two situations. One is a process stream that swings between oxidizing and reducing conditions and would otherwise need two different materials. The other is sulfuric acid service where C-276 has already been ruled out. Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal forges N06200 on the same equipment as C-276, C-22, Alloy 59 and Inconel 625, so alternatives can be priced side by side at enquiry stage.

Mechanical properties
Room temperature minimum values for solution annealed UNS N06200 forgings under ASTM B564. Tested values for the delivered heat are listed on the EN 10204 certificate and normally sit above these minimums.
| Property | Minimum, metric | Minimum, imperial | Typical |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tensile strength, Rm | 690 MPa | 100 ksi | 745 to 800 MPa |
| Yield strength, Rp0.2 | 310 MPa | 45 ksi | 350 to 400 MPa |
| Elongation, A5 | 45 % | 45 % | 55 to 65 % |
| Reduction of area | Report | Report | 60 to 70 % |
| Hardness | 100 HRB max, typical 85 to 95 HRB | ASTM E18 | |
| Charpy V-notch impact | Not called for by B564. Available on request, including low temperature down to −196 °C | ||
These values apply to the solution annealed condition. UNS N06200 is not a precipitation hardening alloy. A request for solution plus age treatment on this grade should be queried, because ageing does not apply and will not raise strength.

Corrosion performance
The point of the grade is that the material does not have to be swapped when a process stream changes character. Three figures get quoted more than any others in material selection reports.
Critical pitting temperature
145 °C in acidified 6 % ferric chloride, well above C-276 in the same test.
Critical crevice temperature
80 °C in acidified 6 % ferric chloride, which leaves margin at gasketed and flanged joints.
Chloride SCC
No cracking after 1008 hours in ASTM G36 boiling 45 % magnesium chloride.
Behavior by medium
| Medium | Behavior | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Sulfuric acid | Best in the C group | The copper addition buys this. Usually the reason N06200 is chosen over C-276 |
| Hydrochloric acid | Excellent | 16 % Mo. Comparable to C-22 from dilute to mid concentrations |
| Hydrofluoric acid | Good | Used in HF alkylation and in pickling service |
| Nitric and mixed oxidizing acids | Very good | 23 % Cr. Tolerates ferric and cupric contamination |
| Phosphoric acid | Very good | Including contaminated wet process acid |
| Chloride pitting and crevice | Excellent | Seawater and brine. See the CPT and CCT figures above |
| Caustic and alkaline | Very good | Stable in hot caustic. Check concentration and temperature |
| High temperature oxidation | Moderate | This is a corrosion resistant alloy, not a heat resistant one. Above roughly 650 °C look at Inconel 601 or 617 |
Corrosion data is taken from published Haynes International technical literature for Hastelloy C-2000 alloy and is a selection guide, not a warranty. Service life depends on concentration, temperature, velocity, aeration, surface condition and contaminants. Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal supplies material to specification. Material selection stays with the purchaser or the process licensor.
UNS N06200 forged products
Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal is a forging factory, not a stockholder. Every UNS N06200 item is forged against a drawing or a dimensional data sheet, then solution annealed, machined to the agreed allowance and tested before shipment. Single pieces and prototype quantities are quoted.

Forging route for UNS N06200
N06200 is more sensitive to strain rate than austenitic stainless steel and its hot working window is narrow, so the route matters more here than it does on a carbon steel part.
Melting and billet supply
Electric arc furnace melting with AOD or VOD refining, then electroslag remelting to control segregation and inclusion content. Vacuum induction melting with ESR is used where a project calls for a double melt route. Each heat is analysed before release and the heat number follows the material through every operation that comes after.
Open-die forging
Billets are heated into the 1010 to 1177 °C window and worked to a controlled reduction schedule. The alloy work hardens fast and finishing below the lower limit risks cracking. Forging reduction is agreed at order stage, with 3:1 taken as the normal minimum for this grade and higher ratios applied where the specification calls for them. Rings are upset, punched and ring rolled so the grain flow follows the circumference.
Solution annealing
Forgings are solution annealed at 1149 °C and quenched rapidly, held 10 to 30 minutes at temperature depending on section thickness. This puts any carbides formed during hot work back into solution and restores corrosion resistance and ductility. Furnace charts are kept with the job file. The alloy is not aged. Solution annealing is the whole heat treatment.
Machining and finishing
Rough or finish machining to the stated allowance, then pickling or bead blasting where a clean surface is specified. Because the alloy work hardens, machining uses positive rake tooling, rigid setups, flood coolant and steady feed.
Testing and certification
Chemical analysis
Optical emission spectrometry on every heat. Positive material identification by XRF on finished pieces before packing.
Mechanical testing
Tensile and hardness to ASTM A370 and ASTM E8. Impact and elevated temperature tensile on request.
Ultrasonic testing
To ASTM A388, EN 10228-3 or SEP 1921. The acceptance class is agreed at order stage and stated on the certificate.
Surface NDT
Liquid penetrant to ASTM E165 or EN 10228-2. Magnetic particle does not apply, since N06200 is non-magnetic.
Corrosion testing
ASTM G28 method A intergranular attack testing where the specification calls for it.
Certification
EN 10204 3.1 as standard. 3.2 with endorsement by BV, SGS, TUV, Lloyd's or DNV on request.
Third-party inspection at the works is welcome and can be arranged before production starts. Where a project needs PED 2014/68/EU Annex I 4.3 or AD 2000-W0 material, state it on the enquiry so the correct route is used from the melt onward.

UNS N06200 compared with C-276, C-22 and Alloy 59
These four grades are often cross-shopped. N06200 goes in when sulfuric acid is in the service envelope. C-276 stays where it is a legacy specification. C-22 suits oxidizing-dominant duty. Alloy 59 is chosen where the highest general resistance is wanted and cost is secondary.
| Property | UNS N06200 | Hastelloy C-276 | Hastelloy C-22 | Alloy 59 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UNS number | N06200 | N10276 | N06022 | N06059 |
| Werkstoff | 2.4675 | 2.4819 | 2.4602 | 2.4605 |
| Cr, % | 23 | 16 | 22 | 23 |
| Mo, % | 16 | 16 | 13 | 16 |
| W, % | – | 4 | 3 | – |
| Cu, % | 1.6 | – | – | – |
| Sulfuric acid | Best of the four | Moderate | Moderate | Good |
| Hydrochloric acid | Excellent | Excellent | Very good | Excellent |
| Oxidizing media | Excellent | Moderate | Excellent | Excellent |
| Minimum tensile | 690 MPa | 690 MPa | 690 MPa | 690 MPa |
| Usual reason to choose | Mixed acid duty including H2SO4 | Established specification, wide availability | Oxidizing-dominant duty | Broadest resistance, lowest C and Si |
All four are forged at Jiangyin, so one enquiry can be priced across the alternatives where the specification allows substitution.
Welding and machining
Welding
UNS N06200 welds by GTAW, GMAW and SMAW without difficulty. The matching filler is AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-17 for the gas shielded processes and AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-17 for stick electrodes. ERNiCrMo-10, the C-22 filler, is an accepted substitute where the matching consumable is not available. Keep heat input low, hold interpass temperature under 100 °C and avoid weaving. No preheat is needed. Post-weld solution annealing is not mandatory for corrosion service, but it restores full properties where the design allows it, and any hot forming after welding has to be followed by re-annealing.
Machining
The alloy work hardens quickly. Use rigid setups, sharp positive rake carbide tooling, slow speeds with a heavy positive feed and flood coolant. Do not let the tool dwell in the cut. A stalled pass work hardens the surface and the next pass rubs instead of cutting. Leave 3 to 6 mm of machining allowance on forgings that will be finish machined after final heat treatment.

Frequently asked questions
What is UNS N06200?
UNS N06200 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with a nominal composition of 59 % nickel, 23 % chromium, 16 % molybdenum and 1.6 % copper. It is sold as Hastelloy C-2000 or Alloy C-2000 and carries the European number 2.4675. The copper addition gives it better sulfuric acid resistance than the other C-family alloys while keeping their chloride pitting and stress-corrosion resistance.
What is UNS N06200 equivalent to?
UNS N06200 is equivalent to Hastelloy C-2000, Alloy C-2000, Alloy 2000, Werkstoff 2.4675 and the EN chemical designation NiCr23Mo16Cu. The UNS N06200 range is slightly wider than the proprietary Hastelloy C-2000 specification, which is held to tighter limits.
Which standard covers UNS N06200 forgings?
ASTM B564, adopted as ASME SB-564, is the main specification for UNS N06200 forgings. Forged flanges and fittings fall under ASTM B462, wrought fittings under ASTM B366, bar under ASTM B574 and plate and sheet under ASTM B575. Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal supplies to ASTM B564 as standard.
What heat treatment do UNS N06200 forgings receive?
Solution annealing at 1149 °C followed by a rapid quench, held 10 to 30 minutes depending on section thickness. UNS N06200 is a solid solution alloy and is not age hardened, so solution annealing is the whole heat treatment. Re-annealing is required after any hot forming and after cold forming that gives more than 7 % outer fibre elongation.
Is UNS N06200 better than Hastelloy C-276?
In sulfuric acid and in oxidizing media, yes. The 1.6 % copper and 23 % chromium in N06200 outperform C-276, which has 16 % chromium and no copper. In hydrochloric acid the two are close. C-276 is the more widely stocked grade, so N06200 is normally chosen when sulfuric acid or a stream that swings between oxidizing and reducing is in the service envelope.
What sizes of UNS N06200 forging can be made?
Sizes are quoted against the drawing rather than from a catalogue, since every piece is open-die forged to order. Give outside diameter, inside diameter, height or length, wall or thickness and quantity on the enquiry and Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal will confirm feasibility, weight and price. Single pieces and prototype quantities are quoted.
Can UNS N06200 be welded?
Yes. It welds by GTAW, GMAW and SMAW. Use matching AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-17 filler wire, or AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-17 covered electrodes for stick welding. ERNiCrMo-10, the C-22 filler, is an accepted substitute. Keep heat input low and interpass temperature under 100 °C. No preheat is needed.
Is UNS N06200 magnetic?
No. UNS N06200 has a magnetic permeability of about 1.0002 and is effectively non-magnetic. Magnetic particle inspection therefore cannot be used on it. Liquid penetrant testing to ASTM E165 is used for surface NDT instead.
What certificates come with UNS N06200 forgings?
EN 10204 3.1 mill certificates as standard, listing heat number, full chemical analysis, mechanical test results, heat treatment record and NDT results. EN 10204 3.2 certificates endorsed by BV, SGS, TUV, Lloyd's or DNV are available on request, along with PMI reports, ultrasonic testing reports to ASTM A388 or EN 10228-3, and ASTM G28A intergranular corrosion results.
Who supplies UNS N06200 open-die forgings in China?
Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. is an open-die forging factory at No.1 Chengxiqiao Road, Zhouzhuang Town, Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province, China. It makes UNS N06200 seamless rolled rings, forged flanges, bars, discs, shafts, sleeves and tube sheets to ASTM B564. Enquiries go to sales@steelforgepieces.com or +86 189 2135 9659.
