2.4662 is the German Werkstoff number for Alloy 901 (also called Nimonic 901 or Incoloy 901, UNS N09901): a nickel-iron-chromium age-hardenable superalloy strengthened by titanium and aluminium precipitates, with molybdenum for solid-solution strengthening. Its substantial iron content gives it high strength and creep resistance to about 600 °C together with good forgeability. Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal forges 2.4662 to your drawing.

What Is 2.4662 (Alloy 901)?

2.4662 / Alloy 901 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-iron-chromium superalloy developed for parts that must keep high yield strength and creep resistance at elevated temperature.

The alloy is hardened by ageing, which precipitates fine titanium- and aluminium-rich phases (γ′ and η-Ni₃Ti); molybdenum provides additional solid-solution strengthening. Because Alloy 901 carries a substantial iron content, it combines that high strength with good forging characteristics, and it offers good corrosion resistance in the atmospheres typical of jet-engine and gas-turbine service. It is most commonly used up to a maximum service temperature of about 600 °C (1110 °F).

Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. produces 2.4662 as open-die forgings and seamless rolled rings to the requirements of the client, delivered to DIN and the cross-referenced international standards below.

Applications of 2.4662 Forgings

Because of its strength and creep resistance at temperature, 2.4662 (Alloy 901) forgings are used in industries such as:

  • Gas turbines and aero-engines: discs, shafts, rings, casings and seals.
  • Pumps: seamless rolled rings and shafts for chemical and plunger pumps.
  • Pressure vessels and heat exchangers: shafts, pipes, tubes, tube sheets and flanges for air receivers and shell-and-tube exchangers.
  • Process plant: flanges, rings and pipes for columns, towers, tanks, silos and preheaters.
  • Offshore oil and gas: bushings, sleeves and discs for subsea and deepwater production, wellhead and Christmas-tree equipment.
  • Valves: stems, seats, seat rings, bodies and blocks for ball, gate, globe, check and plug valves.
  • Power transmission: rings, spindles, bars and gears for turbines, gas compressors and gearboxes.
  • Heavy machinery: crankshafts, wheels, manifolds and rolls for cement, sugar and concrete mills, shipbuilding, pulp and paper and pharmaceutical plant.

Manufacturing, Heat Treatment & Quality

Melting

2.4662 is melted by clean routes such as EAF + VOD followed by ESR (electroslag remelting); VIM + VAR / VIM + ESR are also used to achieve the metallurgical purity needed for creep-life and stress-rupture performance.

Open-die forging

Forging is carried out between about 1010 °C and 1121 °C (1850–2050 °F) metal temperature. Billets are charged into a hot furnace and heated rapidly through the precipitation-hardening range; metal temperature is kept at or below 1121 °C during rapid working.

Heat treatment

Parts are supplied age-hardened: solution treatment followed by ageing (precipitation hardening), typically with a double-ageing / stabilisation cycle to develop full mechanical and creep properties. Welding, where required, is done in the solution-treated condition.

Testing & certification

Forgings are ultrasonically tested to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 or ASTM A388 as specified, and supplied with EN 10204 3.1 certificates, or third-party EN 10204 3.2 certificates on request.
