What is 2.4643?

2.4643 is the European material number (Werkstoff-Nr.) for Hastelloy G-35 — a high-chromium nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy also known as Alloy G-35 and UNS N06035. With roughly 33% chromium and 8% molybdenum, it was developed to resist wet-process phosphoric acid used in fertilizer production, and it is extremely resistant to nitric and other oxidizing acids while also resisting chloride-induced pitting, crevice corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking.

Manufacturing

How we make 2.4643 forgings

  • Melting: EAF + AOD/VOD refining with ESR (electro-slag remelting) for clean, homogeneous 2.4643 ingot.
  • Open-die forging: rings, shafts, disks, blocks and bars forged from the ingot; seamless rings rolled to size.
  • Heat treatment: solution annealing (~1120 °C) with rapid cooling, to the applicable specification.
  • NDT: ultrasonic testing to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 or ASTM A388.
  • Testing: chemical analysis, mechanical testing, intergranular-corrosion and PMI as required.
