What is UNS N10276?
UNS N10276 is a wrought nickel alloy containing approximately 57 % nickel, 16 % molybdenum, 15.5 % chromium, 3.75 % tungsten and 5.5 % iron. The high molybdenum and tungsten content gives resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in reducing media, while chromium provides resistance in oxidising media, which is why UNS N10276 is often described as the most universally corrosion-resistant alloy available in wrought form.
The carbon content is capped at 0.010 % and silicon at 0.08 %. Those low limits suppress grain-boundary carbide precipitation during welding, so UNS N10276 components can normally be welded and put into service in the as-welded condition without post-weld heat treatment. The alloy is not hardenable by heat treatment; strength is raised only by cold work, and forgings are supplied solution annealed.
Is UNS N10276 the same as Hastelloy C-276?
Yes. UNS N10276 is the UNS designation for the alloy sold under the Haynes International trade name Hastelloy C-276. Other names for the same chemistry include Alloy C276, Werkstoff 2.4819, NiMo16Cr15W, Nicrofer 5716 hMoW and Inconel C-276. When Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal quotes UNS N10276 forgings, the material supplied meets the same chemical and mechanical requirements regardless of which of these names appears on the enquiry.

Corrosion resistance of UNS N10276
UNS N10276 resists both oxidising and reducing corrosive environments, which is unusual for a single alloy and is the main reason it is specified where 316L stainless steel, duplex stainless steel or Alloy 625 have already failed. With a pitting resistance equivalent number of approximately 75, the alloy is effectively immune to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking in most process conditions.
- Wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions in pulp bleaching plants.
- Hot contaminated mineral acids, including sulphuric acid at all concentrations and hydrochloric acid.
- Flue gas desulphurisation scrubbers, where chloride concentration and low pH attack stainless steel.
- Sour oil and gas containing hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide and chlorides, per NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3.
- Seawater and brine service, including subsea wellhead and deepwater production hardware.
- Acetic acid, formic acid, phosphoric acid and solvent recovery duties in fine chemical plants.
Intergranular corrosion resistance can be verified before shipment. Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal can perform ASTM G28 Method A or Method B and ASTM A262 Practice B corrosion tests on production material when the purchase order calls for them.

How we forge UNS N10276
UNS N10276 has a narrow hot-working window and work-hardens quickly, so the forging route matters more than it does for carbon or stainless steel. Our standard route for UNS N10276 forgings is:
- MeltingEAF + VOD refining followed by electroslag remelting (ESR) to reduce inclusion content and segregation. Vacuum induction melting can be specified for critical service.
- Ingot heatingSoak to 1230 °C (2250 °F) with a controlled ramp, held long enough for the section to equalise without grain coarsening.
- Open-die forging or ring rollingWorked with a minimum forging ratio of 4:1 for bars and 3:1 for rings. Finishing temperature is kept above 927 °C (1700 °F); below that the alloy cracks rather than flows, and the piece is reheated instead of being forced.
- Solution annealing1121 °C (2050 °F) followed by rapid water quench to hold the carbides and mu phase in solution. Slow cooling through 700-1000 °C is what destroys corrosion resistance, so quench speed is recorded on the heat-treatment chart.
- Rough or finish machiningMachined to drawing with test prolongations left in place where the specification requires witness material.
- Testing and certificationChemical analysis, tensile test, ultrasonic examination and PMI, released with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate, or 3.2 with a third-party inspector.

About the factory that makes these forgings
Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. is an open-die forging factory at No.1 Chengxiqiao Road, Zhouzhuang Town, Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province, China. Jiangyin sits in the Yangtze River delta about 150 km from Shanghai Port, so finished forgings reach Shanghai or Ningbo for export loading within a day.
We forge nickel alloys, stainless steel, tool steel, alloy steel and carbon steel to customer drawings, and we hold the whole route in house: open-die forging, ring rolling, heat treatment, rough machining and non-destructive testing. Because the same team controls forging temperature and quench rate, we can hold the narrow processing window that UNS N10276 needs rather than subcontracting the heat treatment and hoping for the best.
- Open-die hydraulic presses and CNC ring-rolling mills for rings up to 3000 mm outside diameter.
- Gas and electric heat-treatment furnaces with recorded charts for every solution-annealing cycle.
- In-house ultrasonic examination to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 and ASTM A388.
- ISO 9001 quality system; EN 10204 3.1 and 3.2 certification on every order.
- Export experience across chemical, oil and gas, valve and power equipment manufacturers.
Frequently asked questions about UNS N10276 forgings
What is the difference between UNS N10276 and Hastelloy C-276?
There is no material difference. UNS N10276 is the alloy's number in the Unified Numbering System, and Hastelloy C-276 is the Haynes International trade name for the same nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten chemistry. Purchase orders written either way are filled with the same material at Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal.
Which standard do you forge UNS N10276 to?
Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal forges UNS N10276 to ASTM B564 and its ASME equivalent SB-564, which cover nickel alloy forgings. Bar stock is supplied to ASTM B574 and fittings to ASTM B366 grade WPHC-276 when those are specified.
What heat treatment do UNS N10276 forgings receive?
Solution annealing at 1121 °C (2050 °F) followed by a rapid water quench. UNS N10276 cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, so the purpose of the anneal is to dissolve carbides and mu phase and lock them in solution. Slow cooling through the 700-1000 °C range precipitates those phases at grain boundaries and reduces corrosion resistance, which is why the quench is recorded on the furnace chart supplied with the certificate.
How large a UNS N10276 forging can you make?
Our working envelope covers seamless rolled rings up to 3000 mm outside diameter, shafts up to 6000 mm long, and single pieces up to about 4000 kg. Send the drawing or the outside diameter, inside diameter, height and quantity to sales@steelforgepieces.com and we will confirm feasibility and weight before quoting.
Is UNS N10276 suitable for sour service?
Yes. UNS N10276 is listed in NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 for sour service in oil and gas production, subject to the environmental limits and hardness conditions given in that standard for the relevant material group. State the H₂S partial pressure, chloride level, pH and temperature on your enquiry so the correct condition is certified.
Can you supply third-party inspected material?
Yes. We routinely ship UNS N10276 forgings with EN 10204 3.2 certificates witnessed by BV, SGS, TÜV, Lloyd's Register or DNV, and customer inspectors are welcome at our factory in Jiangyin during forging, heat treatment or final inspection.
Why is UNS N10276 harder to forge than stainless steel?
UNS N10276 has a narrow hot-working range, roughly 1230 °C down to 927 °C, and it work-hardens rapidly. Forging below 927 °C causes cracking rather than flow, so the piece must be reheated instead of taking extra blows. It also requires more press force than stainless steel at the same section, which is why the forging ratio and reheat schedule are planned before the ingot is charged.
What information do you need to quote a UNS N10276 forging?
Send the drawing or the finished dimensions, the quantity, the standard you want the material certified to, whether the piece should be as-forged or rough machined, the ultrasonic acceptance class, and any third-party inspection or NACE requirement. With that we can normally return a price and lead time within one working day.
Do you supply alloys other than UNS N10276?
Yes. Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal forges the full Hastelloy, Inconel, Incoloy, Monel, Nimonic and Waspaloy families, along with stainless, tool, alloy and carbon steels. Related grades are linked at the bottom of this page.
Where do you ship UNS N10276 forgings from?
Forgings are produced at No.1 Chengxiqiao Road, Zhouzhuang Town, Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province, China, and exported through Shanghai or Ningbo port. We quote EXW, FOB, CIF or DDP as required.
