What is NiCr28FeSiCe?
NiCr28FeSiCe is a high-chromium austenitic nickel-chromium-iron alloy, designated material number 2.4889 and UNS N06045, and commonly sold as Alloy 45TM or Nicrofer 45TM. It contains a minimum 45 % nickel, 26.0–29.0 % chromium, 21.0–25.0 % iron, 2.50–3.00 % silicon and 0.03–0.09 % cerium. The silicon content and the cerium addition are what set it apart from ordinary Ni-Cr-Fe grades. It resists sulfidation, carburisation and metal dusting in addition to oxidation, and it stands up to the mixed and alternating atmospheres found in waste incinerators and coal gasifiers.

The alloy is specified where an oxidising, reducing, nitriding or sulphur-bearing atmosphere would attack a conventional heat-resistant stainless steel, or where the service temperature rules out austenitic grades. Scaling resistance runs to roughly 1000 °C (1832 °F); in waste-incineration environments it performs well to about 850 °C (1560 °F). Typical duties include oil-ash corrosion, incineration flue gas, sulfur dioxide and caustic solutions.
The alloy work hardens rapidly and is difficult to shape and machine by conventional methods. For most buyers it is cheaper to order the part near-net as a forging than to machine it out of oversized plate or bar stock.

What is the maximum service temperature?
Scaling resistance extends to approximately 1000 °C (1832 °F) in oxidising conditions. In waste-incineration atmospheres the alloy performs well to about 850 °C (1560 °F). For pressure-vessel service the approved range runs roughly −195 °C to 950 °C. The usable limit always depends on the specific atmosphere, stress level and design life, so tell us the duty and we will comment on suitability.
How does NiCr28FeSiCe compare with Inconel 601 or Incoloy 800H?
All three are Ni-Cr-Fe heat-resistant grades, but NiCr28FeSiCe carries much higher silicon (2.50–3.00 %) plus a cerium addition. The silicon builds a silica sub-layer under the chromia scale. That is the reason it is specified over Inconel 601 or Incoloy 800H in sulfidising, carburising and metal-dusting atmospheres, typically waste incineration and coal gasification. Where the atmosphere is cleanly oxidising, the lower-silicon grades are usually the more economical choice. We forge Inconel 601, Incoloy 800H and Alloy 602 as well, so we can quote alternatives side by side.
Is NiCr28FeSiCe difficult to forge and machine?
Yes. The alloy work hardens rapidly and is difficult to shape and machine with conventional techniques. Forging needs close control of soak temperature, reduction per pass and finishing temperature; machining needs rigid setups, positive-rake carbide tooling, low cutting speed with heavy feed and generous coolant. We do both in house, which normally costs the buyer less than machining a finished part out of oversized stock.
Which tests and certificates come with the forgings?
Ultrasonic testing to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 or ASTM A388 as specified on your order. Material certificates to EN 10204 3.1, or EN 10204 3.2 with third-party inspection where required. Certificates carry the heat analysis, mechanical test results and heat number, and forgings are hard stamped to match.
What is the minimum order quantity?
We are an open-die forging factory, not a stockist, so single pieces and prototype quantities are normal work for us alongside production batches.
