Overview
What is 2.4654?
2.4654 is the Werkstoff (DIN/EN material) number for Waspaloy, a nickel-base age-hardenable superalloy equivalent to UNS N07001. Its high-temperature strength comes from a combination of solid-solution strengthening, from molybdenum, cobalt and chromium, and gamma-prime (γ′) age hardening produced by aluminium and titanium. The result is very high strength, good creep and fatigue resistance, and stable structure at elevated temperature.
Waspaloy retains useful strength up to about 980°C (1800°F) and offers good oxidation resistance in gas-turbine environments to about 870°C (1600°F). Its strength is generally comparable to Rene 41 and superior to Inconel 718 above roughly 650–705°C, and it is used for both rotating and static gas-turbine parts.
Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. is a Chinese open-die forging factory that manufactures 2.4654 (Waspaloy) forgings to the DIN standard and to customer drawings. The material is melted by EAF + VOD + ESR for cleanliness, ultrasonically tested, and delivered with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certification. Because Waspaloy is difficult to machine in every heat-treated condition, the air-cooled solution-treated condition is preferred for most machining operations.

Physical properties
Heat treatment
The normal aging treatment for 2.4654 is: stabilize at 1550°F (843°C) for 4 h, air cool, followed by precipitation aging at 1400°F (760°C) for 16 h, air cool. If solution treating is done at 1975°F (1079°C), the 1550°F stabilization time is increased to 24 h instead of the usual 4 h. The air-cooled, solution-treated condition is best for most machining operations.
