## Summary

2.4889 — also called Alloy 45 TM, Nicrofer 45 TM, UNS N06045 or NiCr28FeSiCe — is a high-chromium
austenitic nickel-chromium-iron alloy containing 26–29 % Cr, at least 45 % Ni, 2.5–3.0 % Si and a
cerium addition of 0.03–0.08 %. The silicon and rare-earth content build a tenacious protective scale,
so the grade resists oxidizing, reducing, nitriding, carburizing and sulfidizing gases and shows
excellent scaling resistance to about 1000 °C (1832 °F).

Jiangyin Jiangnan Metal Co., Ltd. forges 2.4889 into seamless rolled rings, flanges, discs, shafts,
sleeves, bushings, tube sheets, round bars and hollow bars. Every piece is solution annealed,
ultrasonically tested to EN 10228-3, SEP 1921 or ASTM A388, and supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2
certificate.

**Not the same as 1.4889.** 1.4889 is GX40NiCrNb45-35, a heat-resistant casting grade. 2.4889 is the
wrought nickel alloy and is the one that can be open-die forged.

## Applications

Waste-to-energy and incineration plant (superheater and evaporator hardware, pyrolysis rotary kilns),
coal gasification, refinery and chemical process furnaces under sulfidizing or carburizing conditions,
salt bath and gas carburizing furnace construction, and forged valve components for high-temperature
service.

## Machining note

2.4889 work hardens rapidly and is difficult to shape and machine with conventional techniques. Use
rigid clamping, a positive depth of cut that stays below the work-hardened layer, low surface speed
with high feed, sharp carbide tooling and generous coolant. Ordering the part rough machined from the
forge removes most of this work from the customer's shop.
