40NiCrMo6, material number 1.6565, is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel for quenching and tempering, with 0.35-0.45% C, 1.40-1.70% Ni, 0.90-1.40% Cr and 0.20-0.30% Mo. ## Production process

1. Melting: EAF + LF + VD.
2. Forging or ring rolling with a sufficient forging ratio.

6. Chemical analysis, mechanical tests, dimension check and EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certificate.

## Heat treatment and mechanical properties

The strength of 40NiCrMo6 after quenching and tempering depends on the section size. A thick forging cools slower in the quench than a small bar, so its core strength is lower. We agree the properties for each part instead of quoting one fixed value.
